Post 16 Choices & Applications

Decisions about what students will do after year 11 need making during the period from November to January. Below are documents and links to guide students through applying either for our Sixth Form or a range of other options including college courses, apprenticeships, or other training.

Our Sixth Form Courses

key stage five courses booklet 2017

There are several key opportunities to help year 11 students make informed choices.

Our Key Stage Five Courses Booklet has detailed information about courses and entry requirements.

During the first week back after the Christmas break Year 11 students can sign up for ‘taster’ lessons for A levels. The Year 11 timetable will run as usual during this week; those Year 11 students who do not ‘taste’ a subject on any given period will attend their normal lesson.

Towards the end of January Year 11 students will be given a form to complete that will ask for their provisional subject choices. This is not binding but does help us to create the A level blocks. This process will act as their application to our Sixth Form.

All Year 11 students will then have an interview with a senior member of staff during February or March when their decision is reviewed and any issues discussed. After this interview students will receive their acceptance letters.

A guide to the 11 to 12 Process – Current Students

For current students, your application process involves an interview. The guide on the left will give you more information.

A guide to the 11 to 12 Process – External Students

For external students, the process is slightly different in that we ask you to fill in an application form as well as attend an interview. You also have the chance to attend our Sixth Form Open Morning on Thursday 24th November. Read the guide on the left for more information.

Students should apply for post-16 courses for Leicester and South Leicester College using UCAS Progress online application form.

College open days

If you are applying to a college it is a good idea to attend an open day. Students should attend these out of school time whenever possible.
